The original Segal lock was developed in 1912 by Samuel Segal, a New York
City Police Officer who saw a need to protect residents form thieves "Jimmying"
or spreading the door frame to gain entry. The lock was quickly accepted
as the best way to secure a door against unauthorized entry due to physical
attack.
Samuel Segal was featured in the Locksmith Ledger in May of 1955 for
his innovations and contributions to the locksmith industry.
